Since 1902, Dyersburg Electric System has proudly served the Dyersburg community, starting with the purchase of a light and water plant. In 1957, DES partnered with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to provide affordable, reliable electricity at wholesale rates. Today, DES remains committed to delivering safe, reliable, and competitively priced energy solutions. As a municipally owned utility, we promote growth, economic development, and efficient energy use. Governed by a five-member board, DES continues to provide exceptional service to meet the needs of Dyersburg’s residents and businesses.

🦺 Storm & Power Outage Safety Tips from Dyersburg Electric System 🦺
Winter weather can bring power outages and dangerous conditions. Please take a moment to review these important safety reminders.
⚠️ Generator & Power Safety (MOST IMPORTANT)
• Never use generators, grills, or propane heaters indoors or in garages
• Generators must be used outdoors only, far away from doors and windows
• Never plug a generator into a wall outlet — this can cause dangerous backfeed and seriously injure linemen
🚧 Downed Power Lines
• Stay at least 30 feet away from downed lines
• Always assume lines are energized and dangerous
• If a line falls on your vehicle, stay inside and call 911 and Dyersburg Electric System
🔥 Heating Safety During Outages
• Keep flammable items at least 3 feet from heat sources
• Do not use ovens or stovetops for heat
• Never leave open flames unattended
🚰 Prevent Frozen Pipes
• Let faucets drip slowly during extreme cold
• Open cabinet doors under sinks to allow warm air to circulate
• Know where your main water shutoff is located
📱 Stay Prepared & Informed
• Charge phones and battery packs ahead of the storm
