Our History
Dyersburg Electric System has been serving the community since 1902, when the City of Dyersburg purchased a light and water plant from Frank Shepard for $8,750. Over the next few decades, the system expanded to meet the growing needs of both the city and surrounding rural areas.
By the 1950’s, increased demand for electricity surpassed the city’s generation capacity. In 1957, DES entered into a long-term partnership with the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) to supply electricity at wholesale rates. This partnership allowed DES to focus on providing reliable and affordable power to the public, guided by sound business practices.
Today, Dyersburg Electric System remains committed to delivering dependable energy solutions and exceptional service to our community.
Our Mission
To bring safe, reliable, competitively priced energy services to our community, to promote growth and economic development and to serve as a source of information regarding the use of electric energy.
