How to Start Service

Gather Required Documents

Before setting up service, ensure you have all necessary documents ready:

  • A valid photo ID (e.g., driver’s license, state ID, or passport).
  • Social Security card or a legal document that includes your Social Security Number (e.g., W-2 form)
  • Proof of residency, such as:
    • Rental agreement
    • Warranty deed
    • Other proof of ownership

Ensure your documents are legible and current to avoid delays in processing.

Choose Your Service Plan

You can choose between two service options:

Standard Monthly Billing

  • A traditional option where you receive a monthly bill based on your usage.
  • Deposit requirements are determined by a credit check.

Prepaid Meter (PPM)

  • A pre-pay option for residential customers offering flexibility without a monthly bill.
  • Additional steps and deposits are required.

How to Stop Service

To disconnect or close your electric service account, please follow these steps:

Prepare your identification

Bring a valid photo ID, such as a driver’s license, state ID, or a passport.

Visit Our Office In Person

Bring your documents to the Dyersburg Electric System office to complete the disconnection process. Please note that the person whose name is on the account must be the one to sign the disconnect order.

Final Bill

After disconnecting your electric service, follow these steps to receive your final bill and any applicable refunds:

Provide a forwarding Address

Make sure to give us your new address to ensure you receive your final bill and any refund due to you after your move.

Bill Processing Timeline
  • The final bill will cover the period between your last regular meter reading and the disconnection date.
  • Allow up to 7 days after your disconnection date for the final bill to be mailed.
Refunds

Any deposit balance, including earned interest, will be refunded after applying it to your final bill (if applicable).

Refunds will be sent to the forwarding address you provide.

How to Move Service: Transferring Your Electric Service

If you are relocating and need to transfer your electric service, follow these steps to move service:

  • Proof of Residency:

Deposit Policy

When starting a new service with Dyersburg Electric System, the deposit and fees required depend on the type of account, credit history, and service options. All accounts require a $20 turn on fee. Below are the details for residential and commercial customers:

Residential Service
  1. Standard Service Monthly Billing
    • A credit check may be performed for all applicants for utility service.
    • A deposit equal to two times the highest monthly bill, at the requested location of service, may be required of any customer before service is supplied.
    • All customers will be required to pay the $20.00 turn on fee.
  2. Prepaid Meter Service Option (Residential Only)
    Prepaid meter service is available for some residential accounts and require:
    • A $75 deposit
    • A $20 turn on fee
    • A $50 beginning balance on the meter
    • Total upfront cost: $145
Commercial Service

Commercial accounts are not eligible for prepaid meter service and are billed through the standard monthly system. Deposit requirements for commercial accounts are determined on a case-by-case basis, depending on the account and location. Contact us for more details.

Deposit Interest Policy

Deposits will earn interest at a rate equal to the average annual interest earned on Dyersburg Electric primary bank account.

  • If the customer moves off the Dyersburg Electric System, the deposit and any earned interest will be applied to the customer’s final bill.
  • Any amount in excess of the final bill will be refunded.
  • Earned interest may be credited to the customer’s account at the discretion of management.
